Alex at regular ward meeting in Bow Lane's Pret a Manger
I was raised in the Highlands of Scotland, later moving to Fife and attending Queen Anne High School in Dunfermline, then Scotland's largest state comprehensive, whose motto Libertatum per Probitatem ("Freedom through Honesty") continues to inform my civic and professional outlook.
Subsequently, I studied Economics and Accountancy at Aberdeen University and began my investment management career in Edinburgh with Franklin Templeton in 1993 as a portfolio accountant.
I moved to London in 1995, going on to work for leading asset management firms, notably Aberdeen Asset Management in Bow Churchyard in Cordwainer Ward from 2005, marking a now 21 year association with the ward.
With now two decades of experience in private markets, I have built my career around recognising structural change early, taking thoughtful risks and backing the businesses and ideas shaping the future of capital markets. I completed the inaugural Oxford Artificial Intelligence Programme at Saïd Business School in 2019, followed by a further Vanderbilt University AI course in 2025.
These experiences have reinforced my conviction that both private markets and AI will be powerful drivers of economic growth, productivity and wealth creation. I therefore see one of my missions as championing positive change - embracing innovation while applying judgement, experience and a long-term perspective.
Alongside my core commercial and professional responsibilities with Sarasin Bread Street, I have sustained a portfolio of additional interests and passion projects and live with my family in North West Hampshire. Weekends invariably revolve our amazing pubs and local community, as well as walking the North Wessex Downs with our whippet, Mabel!
